Nathaniel D. Carrington died Jan 31, 1912. He is buried in Burdette Private Cemetery, Callaway Co. Missouri.

After Nathan's death, Eliza moved into Fulton and continued to take care of her family. She raised her grandson John Russel Craighead, and worked hard the rest of her life, cleaning other people's houses. Eliza was a survivor. She buried 8 of her children, her husband committed suicide one month after the loss of their 6th child. She continued on for 29 years after his death, doing her best to support her family and taking care of everyone. She outlived all 10 of her brother's and sisters. I was born 10 years after my great grandmother's death. I am sorry I never knew this remarkable woman.

Eliza Herring Carrington died August 2, 1941 and is buried in Burdette Private Cemetery. You can Click Here to see pictures of this cemetery and read about it's present condition.

Nat Carrington Ends His Own Life
Takes Carbolic Acid and Dies a Few Hours Later - Body Discovered in Barn.

Nat Carrington, who lives east of town, swallowed a large dose of carbolic acid Tuesday afternoon. Dr. G. D. McCall was called by telephone to his home a short time after Mr. Carrington took the dose and all efforts were made to save the unfortunate man, but death relived his suffering at 1:00 o'clock Wednesday. Sometime Tuesday afternoon Mr. Carrington went to his barn a short distance from the house, climbed into the hay loft, poured the contents of a 1 ounce bottle of carbolic acid into a can and drank it. His groans were heard at the house, and was later discovered by the family. Mr. Carrington has had more than his share of troubles in the past few years. It will be remembered a short time ago his daughter was found dead in her room at Kansas City. His son, a few weeks ago, forged his name to several checks, and several years ago his little daughter fell into a vat of boiling molassas, and was so badly burned that she died in a short time. His troubles are supposed to have unbalanced his mind, and caused him to take his own life. His remains were buried at 10:00 o'clock Thursday morning in the Burdette grave yard.
