Dabney C. and Mary Francis Simco Herring

Dabney Carver Herring was the son of John and Lucy Carver Herring. He was born October 12, 1829 in Albemarle Co. Virginia. He had 9 brothers and 2 sisters, and was my 2nd great granduncle.

Dabney married Mary Francis Simco on February 26, 1857 in Callaway County Mo. She was born February 1, 1836 in Callaway Co., Missouri. Mary F. Simco was the daughter of Reuben B. and Sarah Cowherd Hill Simco. Mary Francis was my 1st cousin 3 times removed.

Mary Francis was the niece of Lucy Simco who married George W. Herring Sr. George W. Herring was her husband Dabney's uncle, and my great great grandfather. She was also a niece of Judith Simco who married John F. Fletcher, who were my great great grandparents. Mary Francis's sister Lucy married Gideon Herring, brother of her husband Dabney. Dabney and Mary Francis's daughter Mary married Hiram Hyten who was related to my Carrington, Allen, and Boyd families.

He was a son of William Roberts and Permelia Berry and was my 4th cousin 3 times removed through my Gibbs descendant line.

        • Married, Apr. 30, 1907, Callaway Co., Missouri, William Edward Craighead, b: Jan 28, 1878, Pettis Co., Missouri, died Jun. 26, 1946, Fulton, Callaway Co., Missouri, , buried in Hillcrest cemetery, Fulton, Callaway Co. Missouri. He was a son of James T. Craghead and Fannie Mattews. He was my 3rd cousin 3 times removed. They had no children.

    • 1900 census shows that Louellen Roberts, widow, was living with her mother Mary Simco Herring, and youngest brother Charles Guy Herring.
      Living at 812 Bluff St. in Fulton on the 1910 census, also at home, her mother and daughter Myrtle, and a nephew G.J. Herring, 1 year old. This is the son of Ira B. and Maude Hook Herring. Maude died giving birth, Ira went to Kansas City to work. He was still in Kansas City in 1931.

    • married 18 Sept 1889, James L. Henderson, b: Nov. 11, 1846, Missouri, d: Jan. 9, 1916, Fulton, Callaway Co., Missouri. He was a son of David Henderson and Mary Blatenburge. They are both buried at Carrington Baptist Church, Carrington, Callaway Co., Missouri.

      • Fred M. Henderson b: about 1901, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: after 1950, married Merle unknown, b: abt 1904 in Missouri. children: living.
    • They raised a niece and nephew from early childhood, Mrytle and Ira Henderson. I don't know whose children they were. Myrtle married Hermon Yake. James and Lucy Herring Henderson lived next door to Lucy's sister and brother-in-law, Hiram and Mary P. Herring Hyten until James death in 1916, then moved to Fulton. Lucy lived with her son Fred and family in 1920 and 1930.
  4. Mary Price Herring b: June 10, 1864, Callaway Co., Missouri d: May 13, 1940
    • married 28 Feb 1883, Hyram Hyten, b: 18 Oct 1858, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: 2 Jan 1931. He was a son of Simpson Hyten and Elizabeth Boyd. Grandson of Stephen H. Hyten and Nancy McGary, and, Thomas Boyd Jr. and Ann Davis. He was my 3rd cousin twice removed through my Carrington descendant line. Hiram and Mary Herring Hyten are buried at Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, Callaway Co., Missouri. They had no children, and lived on a farm in Fulton Township.

        Mrs. Mollie Hyten Dies Here Monday Lifelong Resident of Callawy Succumbs after Long Illness
             Mrs. Mollie Hyten, 75 years old, died at 10:00 Monday morning at 832 Center street in Fulton, where she had resided for the last several months. She had been in failing health for some time.
             Funeral services will be conducted at the First Christian Church in Fulton, where she was a member, at 3:00 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. B.C. Abraim of Columbia, acting pastor of the church, will conduct the services and burial will be in the Carrington cemetery.
             The body will be at the Maupin Funeral Home on Court street until time for the funeral.
             Mollie Price Herring was born June 10, 1864, five miles southwest of Fulton. She was a daughter of Dabney Carver and Mary Simcoe Herring. She was married to Hiram Hyten of Callaway county on February 28, 1883. He preceeded her in death of January 2, 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Hyten resided for many years on a farm, two and one-half miles east of Carrington.
             Mrs. Hyten is survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Louellen Roberts and Mrs. Lucy Henderson of Fulton and Brooks Herring of Kansas City, as well as a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
             Mrs. Hyten was a kind and solicitious neighbor and had lived a true Christian life. Her passing will bring regrets in many circles of Fulton and Callaway county.

      • Myrtle Franklin Jatho b: 1904, Callaway Co., Missouri. She married before 1930, haven't found any records.
      • Minnie H. Jatho b: 1909, Callaway Co. Missouri. In 1930, she was living in a boarding house in Fulton, working as an office girl at the shoe factory.
    • Hernry Jatho was a farmer in Fulton Township. The 1910 census shows 8 children born, 6 living.

    • 2. married about 1910, Lula Neill, b: Mar 1, 1873, d: Oct 16, 1942, buried in the Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, Missouri. Lula was a daughter of Jerry N. Neill and Louisa Jane Douglass. Her sister, Emma Neill was the mother of Eva Pearl Menefee who married Obie Herring. This couple lived in Kansas City, Missouri

        Former Callawegian Died in Oklahoma Tuesday Beckham County
             C. Guy Herring, 51 years old, formerly of Fulton, died at 12:30 Tuesday night at his home in Elk City, Okla., after an extended illness. He had been in failing health for several years and had undergone an operation two years ago at Rochester, Minn. Burial will take place Thursday afternoon in Elk City.
             Mr. Herring was born October 31, 1879, on a farm five miles southwest of Fulton. He was a son of Dabney C. and Mary Simcoe Herring. He was married to Miss Kathryn Randolph, of Fulton, on November 28, 1905. They moved to Elk City in 1908, where they have resided since then.
             Mr. Herring is survived by his widow, four sisters and one brother. They are: Mrs. L.E. Roberts, Mrs. Lucy Henderson, Mrs. Hiram Hyten, and Mrs. Henry Jatho, Fulton, and Brooks Herring, Kansas City.
             He was a member of the Methodist church in Elk City and leaves a host of friends and relatives in this county to mourn his passing.

Living with Mary are her son Charles, single, age 20, her daugher Louellen Roberts, widow, age 42. Louellen's daughter Mabell F., single age 18, daughter Etta M., single age 13, and son Robert H., single age 11. Still living nearby are Gideon and Lucy Simco Herring.

Mrs. Mary F. Herring Dead
Passed Away Sunday at Age of 83 Years With All Her Children Still Living
     The death of Mrs. Mary Frances Herring, 83 years old, shortly after midnight, Saturday, revels that the eight children born to her are still living, a very unusual coincidence. The death of Mrs. Herring occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lou Roberts, of Bluff street, with whom she had been making her home for sometime, from asthma and bronchitis. She had been suffering with these aliments for about three months.
     Mrs. Herring, whose maiden name was Simcoe, was born in Callaway county, February 1, 1836 and was married to Dabney Carver Herring, February 26, 1857. He preceeded her in death 23 years ago. Besides Mrs. Roberts, she is survived by the folling sons and daughters: Mrs. J. L. Henderson of Fulton; Mrs. Mollie Hyten of Carrington, Mrs. Henry Jatho and Mrs. J.H. Mirts of the Mt. Carmel neighborhood, Tom of Dixie, Brooks of Kansas City and Guy of Elk City, Oklahoma.
     A brother, Dirrett Simcoe, is at the point of death at his home near Centralia. Other brothers and sisters surviving are: James of Slater, John of near Thompson, Mrs. Lucy Herring of Fulton, Mrs. Harry Sacre of St. Louis, Mrs. R.A. Wright of Calwood and Mrs. Susan LaRue of Concord. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
     Mrs. Herring was a splendid woman of the eary day type, and all who knew her loved her for her unselfish traits and her neighborly, motherly disposition. Her passing will be mourned by many. She has been a member of the Christian church all of her life.
     Funeral services were held at five o'clock Sunday afternoon, at the Mt. Carmel Methodist church. Rev. W. Garnet Alcorn, officiating and burial was in the church cemetery.
