William Thomas Herring was the son of Dabney Carver Herring and Mary Francis Simco. He was born February 3, 1860, in Callaway Co., Missouri, the second child of 8, and was my 1st cousin 3 times removed.
William married Annie Lydia Meloy on February 23, 1891 in Callaway County Missouri. She was born September 15, 1870 in Callaway Co., Missouri. She was the daughter of E.O. Meloy and Mary Polly Mirts.
William and Annie Herring farmed in Caldwell Twp., Callaway Co, Missouri. They had 3 children:
- Bertie Mae Herring, b: 30 Apr 1894, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: 3 Nov 1959.
- Married Sept. 2, 1916 in Callaway Co., Missouri, Frank Elmer Stephens b: 22 Mar. 1889, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: 10 June 1963. He was a son of William Isaac Stephens and Elizabeth Shaw. Frank and Bertie Stephens are both buried in Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton, Callaway Co., Missouri.
- Children:
- Helen Herring Stephens, b: Feb. 3, 1918, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: Jan. 17, 1994, St. Louis, Missouri, buried Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton, Callaway Co., Missouri.
Helen Herring Stephens was the 1936 olympic gold medal track winner in the Berlin Olympics.

Tommy Herring, 51, Dies Late Friday
Unexpected Death of Fultonian Believed Caused by Blood Clot
Otis Paul "Tommy" Herring, 51, well-known Fulton resident, died unexpectantly about midnight Friday at his home, 704 Grand street, where he had lived for the past fifteen years. He had been in good health and had worked all day Thursday. A blood clot was believed to have been the cause of death.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Maupin Funeral Home. The Rev. A.F. Larson officated and burial was in the Callaway Memorial Gardens.
Born on May 15, 1899, near Dixie, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Herring. He had lived all of his life in Callaway County and had been employed by the Boulware H. Jameson, Inc., automobile agency for the past 18 years as a painter.
In addition to his wife and son, Russell Lee, he is survived by a brother, Nolin, of Fulton and a sister, Mrs. Frank Stephens, also of Fulton.

Kathryn Monzell Herring
Kathryn Monzell Herring, 91, of Fulton, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1991 at the Heartland Nursing Home in Fulton.
She was born Aug. 5, 1899 in Independence, the daughter of the late John Henry and Rosa May Schaffer Van Reen. She married Nolan "Jack" Herring, Sept. 3, 1952 in Arkansas, and he preceded her in death Aug. 18, 1983.
She is survived by two sisters, Rose Henage of fulton and Elizabeth Roberts of Fulton; one brother, Fred Van Reen of Fulton; one niece, Helen Stephens of Florissant; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clay Van Reen and W.D. Van Reen and one sister, Gertrude Sanders.
She worked in St. Louis during World War II and returned to Fulton in 1945.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday in the Debo Funeral Chapel in Fulton, the Rev. Raymond McCallister Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in the Debo Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. W.T. Herring Dies Saturday
Third Stroke of Paralysis Fatal to Native Resident
Mrs. Anna Lydia Herring, 77, died Saturday night following a stroke of paralysis suffered earlier in the day. She had suffered two previous strokes and had been bedfast for 19 months. She was making her home with her son, O.P. (Tommy) Herring at 704 Grand.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Maupin Funeral Home with the Rev. A.F. Larson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Mrs. Herring was born September 15, 1870, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Meloy, who lived in south Callaway County. She was married to William Thomas Herring who died in 1926. Surviving are two sons, O.P. and Noland (Jack) Herring, and Mrs. Frank Stephens, Dixie. There are three grandchildren, one of whom is Miss Helen Stephens, former Olympic track star. Since Mr. Herring's death, Mrs. Herring had made her home with her two sons.
They are both buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Callaway Co. Missouri.
