  See the notes under the mother of Sarah E. Guthrie for the 1880 Callaway Co., MO census. Henry is then living with his grandmother. In Samuel T. Guthrie's will, 24 April, 1872, Henry S. Holman is listed as an heir of Samuel's daughter S.E. Guthrie and was allocated $170.00 D.B. Guthrie was appointed his guardian, seeing as how Henry was underage. Birthdate comes from a letter Henry's father, William H. Holman sent to his sister Mary R. (Holman) Caldwell. In a letter written Nov. 20, 1880 from William H. Holman to his sister Mary R. Caldwell, he says this about Henry. "Henry is teaching school at Guthrie this being the name of the place or Town created there on the rail road they have two or three stores a black smith shop depo church Flour mill and school house Henry has 80 scholars and gets $75.00 per month he has an assistunt Mother Guthrie keeps well as usual" H.S.
