Fulton Weekly Gazette
Kept Money in House.
James T. Carr, of Millersburg, administrator of the estate of the late John J. Clatterbuck, of Earl, found $1,393 in cash at the home of Clatterbuck when he went there Monday to invoice the personal property belonging to the estate. The money was in the upstairs part of the house in a wooden box that had leather hinges. A smaller box was found that was much stronger, but it had only a few dollars in it. Nearly all of the money was in five, ten, and twenty-dollar bills.
Clatterbuck began to accumulate money about the time of the failure of the Commercial Bank in Fulton, and his relatives say that that event caused him to keep his money instead of depositing it in a bank. Mr. Carr brought it to Fulton and deposited it in a local bank as soon as he found it.
Mr. Clatterbuck died Monday of last week of consumption. He was born in Boone county 43 years ago, but nearly all of his life was spent in this county. He is survived by his mother and two sisters - Mrs. Amelia Freeman, of Miller county, and Mrs. Robert Hill, of near Earl. He was a member of the Christian church and a hard-working, honest citizen.
