Susan Hill Herring (wife of Jonathan Herring)
From Albemarle Co. marriage records:
Jonathan Herring (Herren?) married Susan Hill 29 Dec 1809; minister, A. Brockman; bondsman, Richard Hill; witness, Ira Garrett; daughter of Henry Hill, who gives consent; witness Richard Hill and William Herring.
From Index to Miscellaneous Records" Albemarle Co. Courthouse, 1831:
Susan Hill Herring (wife of Jonathan Herring) was not living when her father's land was divided and so the land was to go to her heirs:
1.William Herring
2.Frances Herring
3.Amanda Herring
4.Elizabeth Herring
Jonathon may have also been dead at this time. A Hill researcher believes the children went to Tennessee with Susan Hill's brother Henry Hill Jr., however we have found no trace of them. But... we are checking on a theory that Jonathon was alive as late as 1835 and came to Callaway Co. Missouri with his brothers Nathan and George in that year. In the 1840 census, there is a white male living in Nathan's home that would have been the right age to have been Jonathan. We have never found any record of him, but because the Pioneer book does specifically mention him as being a brother of George, Nathan, and John, we are wondering if he didn't come to Missouri and die or go west shortly after 1840. Just a theory.
from the pioneer book: George Herring, of Virginia, married Elizabeth Closby, and they had Jonathan, George, John and Nathan. The three last named were soldiers in the War of 1812, and they afterwards married and resided in Callaway county. George married Lucy Sinco ; John married Lucy Carver, and Nathan married Susan Hill.
Found this, no idea if this is my Jonathan Herring:
