Total Speculation at this point --
The theoy is that George and Polly may have had a son born July 10 1823 and named him GWH Jr. Polly died in childbirth, the baby was given to George's brother John to raise because John's wife was Polly's sister. This GWH Jr was not listed on the LDS files with the rest of John and Lucy's children. In 1825 George came to Missouri with his cousin John B. Herring to look for land, they were gone possibly as long as a year. On the 1850 Mo. census, GWH Jr. was married and living next door to GWH Sr., giving his name to the census taker as Jr. When George and Lucy Simco Herring began having children, they did not name any of their sons GWH Jr, until 1846, their 8th child. At the time GWJ Jr. was born, the first son, GWH Jr., was grown and married, perhaps this is why they felt it was alright to name a son GWH Jr. We do not have absolute proof of this, however, the names on the census in 1850 and the LDS files leaving him out as a son of John and Lucy Carver when they had every other child of their listed, certainly leads to speculation. Why they did not take back the original son after George and Lucy married could be explained by the fact that the child was at that time almost 7 years old, was living with the only parents he had ever known. Since George knew he was going to still be a neighbor of his brother and able to see this child whenenver he wanted, it doesn't seem likely to me that they would have taken the child back. If this later proves to be true, it changes all the relationships that I have from the John and Lucy Carver line... GWH Jr. #1 and GWH Jr. #2 would have been half brothers... and both of them were my Great and Great Great Grandfathers. #1 being the father of Eliza S. Herring Carrington and #2 being the father of Dolor Herring.
