    Debo Funeral Home obituary
    • Mary Ann Borgelt, 76, of Kingdom City went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 4, 2011. She was born April 7, 1934 in Fulton, the daughter of Robert E. Fisher, Sr. and Katherine (Gross) Fisher.

She was united in marriage on December 30, 1951 to Clifford Borgelt. They recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. Clifford survives at the home.

Mary Ann was a life-long resident of Callaway County. She graduated with honors from Fulton High School in 1951. She went on to earn two degrees from the University of Missouri Columbia, a BS in General Studies and an MS in Heath Related Professions (Health Education).

Mary Ann was devoted to her family and friends. She was dedicated to serving others as an adult educator, 4-H Community Leader, the first SERVE, Inc. Social Worker, Extension Education Associate, Sunday school teacher and church pianist. For many years, she was an active member of the Mt. Olivet/Prairie Chapel Church. More recently she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She continually lived her Faith.

She was a passionate environmentalist, an expert seamstress, an avid gardener, and consummate homemaker.

She was a type-1 diabetic for 59 years as well as a cancer survivor. She received the Joslin Diabetes Center Gold Medal for life-long management of diabetes. It was Mary Ann's wish that her organs be donated to the Joslin Diabetes Center, helping further their research.

In 1987, she was presented the Fulton Kiwanis Club Community Spirit Award. The inscription reading "In recognition of a life of excellent example and quiet service to God and community" summarized the way Mary Ann gracefully led her life.

Mary Ann will be fondly remembered by her husband, Clifford Borgelt; two sons, Steve Borgelt of Kingdom City and Dave Borgelt of Columbia; one daughter, Jean Gruenewald and husband Don of Imperial; two granddaughters, Kate and Kara Gruenewald; one brother Tom Fisher and wife Fay of Starkville, Ms.; sister-in-law, Carolyn Fisher of Fulton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert E. "Bob" Fisher, Jr. and James M. Fisher.

A memorial service celebrating Mary Ann's life will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Fulton with Reverend Rudy Beard officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until the time of service and following the service until 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Joslin Diabetes Center or First Presbyterian Church
