Notes |
- From the History of Callaway County Missouri, 1884, page 561, from article about his son James A.G. Culbertson;
...a son of Joseph Culbertson and wife, whose maiden name was Sarah A. Griffith, both born and reared in Bourbon county, Kentucky, the father born December 5, 1804, and the mother November 23, 1812. They were married January 1, 1829, and in 1832 removed to Callaway county where the father died March 22, 1870. He was a blacksmith by occupation, and also following farming. At the time of his death he owned an excellent farm, his tract of land numbering 420 acres, all made by his own honest industry.He was a highly respected citizen of the township and served as justice of the peace for a number of years. His loss was greatly regretted, for he was a valuable citizen and a kind, good neighbor.
His wife still survives him, and now makes her home at her son-in-law's, the residence of Dr. N. F. Baker, of Fulton. She has long been a member of the Presbyterian church, as her husband was for many years before his death. He was a leading elder in the church. They had eight children, five of whom are living: Joseph M., of Vandalia, Missouri; James A. G., of this county; Samuel A., also of this county; Mary A., wife of Dr. N. F. Baker, of Fulton; and Sarah A., wife of John G. Provines, the editor of the Moberly (Missouri) Monitor. Those deceased are: Rosanna E., wife of Milton Allen, and Thomas B., the last dying in 1881, aged twenty-six, and Sarah L. dying February 6, 1883, having reached maturity.
