- R.W. Tureman Dead.
Robert W. Tureman, 77 years old, a native of and for many years a resident of Callaway county, died at his home in Kansas City last Saturday after a brief illness. He was stricken with apoplexy while sitting on his porch on Monday before his death and lingered until Saturday. Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon by Rev. Dr. S.M. Neel, of Central Presbyterian church, of which he was a member, and burial was in Elmwood cemetery in that city.
Mr. Tureman was vice-president of the Missouri Savings Bank of Kansas City and a man of large means. He was one of the organizers of the Southern Bank of FUlton, which celebrated its fortieth birthday the first of May. He moved from Fulton to Mexico in 1876 and organized the First National Bank in that city before becoming its president. He left Mexico in 1885, going to Kansas City, where he was made president of the Aetna National Bank, which was disolved five years later. THen his connection began with the Missouri Savings Bank.
Mr. Tureman was born on a farm near New Bloomfield January 1, 1834 and spent the earlier years of his life there. At 19 he was employed in a general store at New Bloomfield, and at 26 was the owner. He moved to Fulton in 1872 and lived here four years.
He is survived by two sons, Arthur P. Tureman, of Los Angeles, Cal., and Dr. Herbert G. Tureman, of Kansas City. His wife died in 1890. He was a brother of the late James H. Tureman, of Fulton. Of this pioneer family of six sons, only William S. Tureman, of San Jose, Cal., survives.
