Notes |
- James E. Herring was my great granduncle, son of George Washington and Lucy Simco Herring, and brother of my great grandfather George W. Herring Jr.
He was born December 26, 1831 in Albemarle Co., Virginia. When he was four years old, his family made the journey to Callaway County Missouri.
On April 11, 1857, James married Eliza R. Conger in Callaway Co., Missouri.
Eliza Conger's brother, John G. Conger, married James E. Herring's sister, Jane Herring in 1857, the same year that Eliza and James were married.
On the 1870 census, James E. and Eliza Herring are listed as having two children, Sarah E. born 1858 and Cora, born 1866. James occupation besides his farm was milling flour. James E.'s first cousin, James C. Herring ran the mill in the county and that must have been where James E. was working.
