William "Tip" Harrison Herring and Zelda Skinner

William "Tip" Harrison Herring was my great granduncle, the sixth child and third son of George Washington and Lucy Simco Herring. William "Tip" Harrison Herring was born January 6, 1840 in Callaway County Missouri.

In 1864, he married Zelda Skinner. She was born about 1846 in Ohio, a daughter of Ephram Skinner and Georgia Spurgron. Her sister, Rebecca Skinner married Tip's brother, John Luther Herring.

This family has been very hard to trace. I found them on the 1870 Callaway Co., Missouri census with three children. I did not find any other trace of them until the 1900 census, and only found William H. Herring, none of his children, and Zelda was dead by that time. So, as far as i know they had three children:

Zelda Skinner Herring died Oct. 13, 1887 and is buried in the Herring (1) Family cemetery, south of Fulton.

William "Tip" Harrison Herring was on the 1900 Callaway Co., Mo. census, living as a border with a Austin Harris family in Fulton Twp., occupation farmer. In 1920, he was living on the corner of Court and E. Court St. in Fulton Missouri. He is listed as head of house.

He died on Feb. 15, 1923 in Jefferson City, Cole, Missouri. He may also be buried in Herring (1) Family cemetery, but his headstone is no longer there.
