William Henry Herring was born about 1859 in Callaway Co., Missouri. He my great granduncle, a son of George Washington Herring and Hester Ann Kemp..
On March 9, 1888 in Callaway Co., Missouri, he married Nevada Dorsey. She was born about 1869 in Callaway Co., Missouri, and died between 1895 and 1900 probably in Callaway Co. Missouri. She was a daughter of James H. Dorsey and Sarah Willing, a grandaughter of William Willing originally from Maryland, and Eliza C. Parker originally from Tennessee.
This family seemed to fall apart after the death of Nevada. All five children were boarded out with relatives and others. As far as I can tell, they never lived together again after her death.

1st Married Oct 7, 1912 Mary Florence Pasley, b: June 14, 1893, Bachelor, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: Oct 17, 1925, Nine Mile Prairie Twp., Callaway Co., Missouri. Buried Nine Mile Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, Callaway Co., Missouri. She was a daughter of Edwin Price Pasley and Martha M. Kemp, and was my 4th cousin twice removed.

- Married, Hellen E. unknown, b: abt. 1919, d: 1974. Buried Elmwood Cemetery, Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri.

2nd Married Pauline Burks, Nov. 28, 1951. She had 3 daughters and 1 son by a previous marriage. Burks was her married name not her maiden name.
- 1900 census, George Herring, age 9, living with Robert and Annie Herring Dunlap. Annie is a daugher of James C and Sarah Jane Knight Herring. George is listed as a cousin, he was their great nephew. On 1910, living with Newton Tate family as a servant. On 1920 census, George is married and has two small children. Living in 9 mile Prairie and working as a star route mail carrier. In 1930 I can't find George, wife Mary Florence has died, and their two children are living with Mary's parents, Elvin Price Pasley and Martha M. Kemp.

George Wesley Herring
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Centralia today for George Wesley Herring, who died this week at the Audrain County Hospital in Mexico. Internment was in the Central Cemetery. He was 76 years old.
Mr. Herring, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Herring, was born June 5, 1890 in Fulton. He was married to Pauline Burks, Nov. 28, 1951.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alf (Louise) Knipmeyer of Williamsburg, and one son, Russell Herring of St. Louis; three step daughters, Mrs. Ketha Haucks of Mexico, Mrs. Donald Peel of Grandview, and Mrs. Ronnie Toalson of Columbia; a step son, Frank Burks of Columbia, and three grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
One brother and on sister preceeded him in death.
Mr. Herring was associated with the Jefferson Hotel and Frank richards, in Mexico, before he retired about five years ago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centralia.

- In 1910, he was a farm laborer on James Foster farm. (this is the same James Foster family that his 1st cousin John Franklin Herring, son of Thomas Albert Herring, was living with in 1900) In 1920 he was single, living in Cote Sans Dessein, Callaway, Missouri, farmer. In 1930, he was living with his sister Anna Bell Herring Sims and family in Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri, single and working as a truck driver.
- Jessie F. Herring b: Oct 10, 1893, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: Apr 15, 1906, Callaway Co., Missouri. Buried Dunlap Private Cemetery, Callaway Co. Missouri.

On the 1900 census, Jessie F. Herring, age 7, living as a boarder on the William Snyder farm. I cannot connect the Snyder family to any Herrings,. They are next door to Mary Francis Simco Herring.

She is buried next to Robert A. and Anna Eliza Herring Dunlap in the Dunlap Private Cemetery, Callaway Co., Missouri. In the 1900 census, they were taking care of her brother George.

Jessie Herring Dead
Jessie Herring died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Dunlap, northeast of town, Sunday morning, April 15, 1906, aged 12 years, and burial took place at the Dunlap graveyard, Monday afternoon after services by Rev. M.A. Hart, of Fulton. Pneumonia caused her death.
She was a member of the Christian church, and her unselfish disposition made her a favorite with all. Always thoughtful of the comforts of others, she readily ingratiated herself into the good graces of all with whom she came in contact and her many friends deeply deplore her death. She was a daughter of Henry Herring, who survives her.

On the 1900 census, Claude Herring, age 6, is living with Clarence (born 1872) and Susan Lamar Craighead (born 1875). Claude is listed as a ward. Claude was Clarence Craighead's third cousin once removed. In 1910, Claude was living with his father and his 18 year old stepmother. I have found no other records of Claude. There is another Claude Herring, also born in 1894, who was a son of John Milton Herring and Cassander Woods. These two Claude Herrings are not the same person, they were 2nd cousins.

On the1900 and 1910 census, she is living with her Aunt and Uncle, John and Permelia Davis Herring. By 1920 she is married to Charles Sims, who is a mechanic in a garage, and living in Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri. In 1930, she is a widow with a 13 year old son, and her brother Pollard is living with her. .
On the 1900 census, Wm. Henry Herring is living with his 1st cousin, Silas Herring family as a farm laborer.
In 1910, he has married again. She is Elsie Alice Farris, born abt. 1892 in Missouri, a daughter of George W. Farris and Susan Craighead. She was my 3rd cousin once removed. They married about 1909 when she was 17 years old. Wm. Henry is 50 years old.

- Clarine Herring b: 1909, Callaway Co., Missouri
- Henry Herring b: 1913, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: 1987, Callaway Co., Missouri. Buried in Callaway Gardens Cemetery, Fulton, Callaway Co., Missouri.
He is found as Henry Herring on the 1920 census, listed as working as a mine labor, living in Fulton, divorced. His wife and two children in 1920 are in Jefferson City, Cole Co., Missouri, living with her grandmother, Arminda Farris.
William Henry Herring died July 6, 1927 in the county infirmary in Hams Prairie, Callaway Co., Missouri. He was buried in the cemetery of the infirmery, which no longer exists. The county infirmary was a part of the county poor house.

Henry Herring Is Dead
Henry Herring, 67 years of age, a lifelong resident of Callaway county, died at Hams Prairie at 10:00 o'clock, Wednesday night, after an illness of several months. Burial was Thursday at Hams Prairie.
He leaves four children to mourn his passing, none of whom live here and one sister and one brother, Mrs. Nat Carrington of Fulton and John Herring, of Hannibal. He is a brother of James G. Herring, who died in Fulton, this week.
note: Obituary did not mention the youngest children or the deceased daughter, or either wife.
