Wharton Canada Simco and Julia A. Brockman


Wharton Canada Simco was born July 24, 1811 in Albemarle Co., Virginia. He was a son of James Simco and Francis Canada. He was my 2nd great grandUncle.

On October 7, 1841 in Callaway Co., Missouri, Wharton Simco married Julia A. Brockman. Julia was born on Jan. 18, 1825 in Howard Co., Missouri.

She was a daughter of William Brockman and Lucy Simms of Virginia. Her grandparents were Ambrose Brockman and Nancy Simms. Ambrose and Nancy Brockman were also the parents of Agnes Brockman who married my 4th great uncle, John Hill. Three of John Hill and Agnes Brockman's children married children of James Simco and Francis Canada.

      Granville was the oldest son of James Henry Smith and Elizabeth Marshall Duggins.

          Mrs. Granville Smith died of typhoid fever, at her home, north of Fulton, at noon yesterday.

          At her home, near Fulton, Friday, Oct. 11, 1907, of typhoid fever, Mrs. Granville Smith, aged 61 years. Besides a husband, she leaves three sons and one daughter, all grown, to mourn her death. Before her marriage she was Miss Sallie Simcoe. Burial took place at Richland Baptist church cemetery, Saturday, after a sermon by Rev. W. H. Burnham.

            Marshall C. Smith, 68 years old, died of a heart attack Tuesday at the weight and permit station, 122 Garrison Avenue where he was employed as a permit agent for the Arkansas revenue department. Mr. Smith was a member of the Central Presbyterian church, Belle Point Masonic Lodge, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He had been a resident of Fort Smith 35 years.
            Survivors include his wife, of the home, 725 North Greenwood Avenue; two sons, Granville Smith, Detroit, Mich., and J.B. Hardwood, Van Buren; one sister, Mrs. Alma Thomas, Portland, Oregon; and brother Edgar Smith, McCredie, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

         Mrs. Permelia Simcoe Died At Noon Today
         Funeral Services to Be Held at the Richland Baptist Church on Thursday
         Mrs. Permelia Bailey Simcoe, 85 years old, a native and life long resident of Callaway county, died at 12:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of her brother, R. S. (Doc) Craig, 1001 Nichols Street.
         Mrs. Simcoe had been in failing health for eight years. She suffered at stroke of paralysis on December 16, 1933 and since that time had been in ill health.
         Mrs. Simcoe was born July 20, 1851, in the Richland community of Callaway county, north of Fulton, the daughter of William T. and Sidney Smith Craig, pioneers of the Kingdom, who came from Kentucky and Virginia, respectively. She spent her entire life in Callaway county, except for two years in Texas.
         She was married November 25, 1886 to Samuel W. Simcoe, who died in 1923. Mrs. Simcoe had no children of her own but reared two, Mrs. Harry McClellan and Willard Smith. She also leaves two brothers and a sister; George Elly Craig, McCredie; R. S. Craig, Fulton; and Mrs. Belle Wallace, McCredie, and numerous nephews and nieces.
         Mrs. Simcoe united with the Richland Baptist Church early in life but moved her membership to the Fulton church later. She had been residing with her brother in Fulton since 1933. She was familiarly known by her neighbors and friends as "Auntie" and numbered her friends by her acquaintances. She bore her long suffering with patience and her passing brings sincere regret to a host of friends.

       George was a doctor at Holts Summit in 1884, and in 1910 he was a doctor affiliated with the Synodial College in Fulton.

Wharton Canada Simco died December 3, 1887 in Calwood, Callaway Co., Missouri. He is buried at Richland Baptist Church cemetery, Callaway Co., Missouri.

Julia A. Brockman Simco died December 26, 1902. On the 1900 census, she was living in St. Louis with her daughter and son in law, Charles and Mary A. Simco Woodson, so she might have died in St. Louis. She is buried in Richland Baptist Church cemetery, Callaway Co., Missouri.
