Susan Emily Fletcher was my great Aunt. She was born in
Callaway Co. Missouri, April 4, 1849, a daughter of John F. Fletcher and Judith Simco. She was a grandaughter of John Sr. and Mary Fletcher, who came from Virginia to Callaway Co. Missouri about 1826. She was also a grandaughter of James Simco and Francis Canada.
On January 17, 1867, she married Albert Willett. Albert was born in Tennessee in 1837. He was a son of Enoch Henry and Cecila Willett, a grandson of William Willett originally of Virginia. Enoch Henry Willet and his brother David Willett came from Tennessee to Callaway Co., Missouri with their families about 1840. Albert Willett had 11 brothers and sisters. Albert Willett was in Company L9 of the Missouri S. M. Calvery on the side of the Union in the Civil War. After the war, when he was 30 years old, he married Susan Fletcher. She was 17 years old. Susan Emily Fletcher and Albert Willett had one child:
Albert Williett was a farmer all his life. He died Aug. 26, 1912 in Fulton Twp., Callaway Co., Missouri. He was buried at Central Christian Church Cemetery, Callaway Co., Missouri. He lived the last few years of his life with his son John's family. Susan Emily Fletcher was listed as a surviving sister in Elizabeth Fletcher Hill's obituary in 1903, but her name was given as Susan Oestreich, not Willett. I have found her death certificate and she died April 26, 1929, her son John Willett gave the information, so I am sure this is right. I do not have a second marriage record for her, but she was living in the same town as her sister, Salisbury, Missouri in 1903 with that last name. In 1903, Albert Willett was still alive. They must have been divorced. She was buried in the Salisbury cemetery, Salisbury, Chariton Co., Missouri. |
