Thomas Wesley Herring was the youngest son of John and Lucy Carver Herring. He was born February 22, 1839 in Callaway County Missouri. He had 9 brothers and 2 sisters, and was my 2nd great granduncle.
Thomas grew up on a farm, and was himself a farmer all his life. On February 11, 1864 he married Mary Jane Young. Mary Jane was a daughter of Joseph Young and Mary Nicholes of Virginia. Mary Jane Young was born April 7, 1846 in Callaway County Missouri.
Thomas and Mary Jane had 10 children, I only have records for 9:
- Joseph Herring b: Jan 20, 1865, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: June 25, 1935, St. Charles Co., Missouri.
- married Oct. 7, 1890, Callaway Co., Missouri, Ludie D. Davidson, b: Aug 1, 1865 d: March 22, 1952. They are both buried here Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Callaway Co. Missouri. Ludie Davidson was a daughter of Wilson Davidson and Rebecca Mosley. Her brother, Sterling Price Davidson married Joseph's sister, Virginia E. Herring.
- Children:
- Hallie W. Herring, b: abt. 1893. On the 1910 St. Charles Co. Missouri census, Hallie was listed as deaf and dumb. on the 1920 census, she is no longer at home, but they have taken in an orphan, age 3 1/2 named James Clayton.
- Joseph Herring was the Superintendent of the St. Charles Public Schools. I am currently searching for more information about this family.

Carmel Cemetery in Callaway Co. Missouri. Sterling Price Davidson was a son of Wilson Davidson and Rebecca Mosley. His sister, Ludie, married Virginia Herring's brother, Joseph. - On 1930 census, living at 709 Grand Ave. They own their house valued at $2,500. He is employed as a dairyman and a school janitor.

Craghead and Nancy C. Hall and was my 3rd cousin 3 times removed. They are buried together in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Callaway Co. Missouri.

- On the 1920 census, this family was living in Round Prairie township. Farmer, renting land. His mother Mary Jane Herring was living with this family in 1920.

Luther E. Herring Dies in His Sleep
Services On Friday
Luther E. Herring, 70, extensive farmer and stockman in the Carrington community for many years, died in his sleep at his home early Wednesday. He had been suffering with a heart condidtion, but his condition had not be considered serious.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the First Christian Church here. Interment will be at the Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Wallace Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be J.P. Craighead, Hugh Morris, Stanley Guerrant, Guy Barrow, Percy Divers and Omer Kemp.
Born on June 30, 1885, south of Fulton, Mr. Herring was a son of the late Thomas W. and Mary Young Herring. He was married to the former Miss Alice Mosley on Oct. 23, 1907. Mrs. Herring survives.
Mr. Herring was a member of the Christian Church since childhood and was a deacon of the Boydsville Christian Church for many years. He and his wife had lived on the present farm for the past 26 years and had lived in the Carrington community since 1908.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Morris (Evelyn) Conner and Mrs. Raymond (Helen) Barrow, both of Fulton; one sister, Mrs. Pearly Eager of Abilene, Kan.; three grandchildren, Billy Conner and Mona Raye and Bruce Barrow; on great grandchild, Nancy Jane Conner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
- Maude P. Herring b: about 1887, Callaway Co., Missouri. This is possibly the Pearly Eager mentioned in her brother Luthor's obit.
On the 1870 census, listed as Herron. Joseph Young, father of Mary Jane Young, was living with this family, age 55. Lucy Carver Herring (Thomas's mother) is also living with this family in 1870, age 74.

Mary J. Young Herring died January 13, 1920 in Round Prairie Twp, Callaway Co. Missouri.
