Judge Thomas W. Herring, 77 years old, who was a member of the Callaway county court from 1905 to 1915, died at his home in Auxvasse Wednesday morning at 2:40 o'clock. He had been in declining health several years and on Tuesday suffered what appears to be a heart attack and passed away a few hours afterward.
Funeral arrangements have not been made because the family are waiting for messages from relatives away from home.
Judge Herring was born on the old Herring mill farm, northeast of Fulton, and grew to manhood and lived there many years. Subsequently he moved to Fulton and was engaged in the hardware business here for a time. Then he bought a farm in Shamrock township and moved to it, living there a few years until he moved to Auxvasse about twelve years ago.
He was married nearly half a century ago to Miss Mary Hardin, who survives. She is a sister of George W. Hardin, northeast of Fulton. The only child of the couple is Willard Herring, who resides at Laramie, Wyo. One brother, Rufus Herring, lives near Mexico, and one sister, Mrs. J. Ed. Simcoe, lives north of Fulton.

Thomas W., Judge Herring Abt 75 19 Dec 1922 Fulton Telegraph, Callaway Weekly Gazette
      Name: Thomas Herring
      Birth Date: 1845
      Death Date: 1922

      From Tom Fisher:
The Thomas W. Herring that married Mary Hardin is the son of James C. Herring. He was raised on the Herring Mill farm, which was very close to the Hardin farm. I was raised on a farm about 1 mile from there on the farm originally owned by John M. Simcoe, youngest of the children of James and Frances Simcoe. I have the obituary of Thomas W. Herring and it clearly says that he married Mary Hardin nearly half a century ago. They had one child: Williard Herring, who was living in Laramie, Wyo. when his father died. Thomas Herring was a judge of the Callaway county court from 1905 to 1915. He later moved to Auxvasse where he died and is buried.

death notice gave Dec 19, 1922, actual death was Dec 20, from death certificate. He died at 2:45 a.m. on the 20th, probably why other sources give the 19th.
