J.S. Witcher, 85, Dies At Hospital; Rites Saturday
James Sollie Witcher, 85, died at 3 a.m. today at the Callaway Hospital where he had been a patient the last four months.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Maupin Funeral Home with the Rev. A.O. Hallam officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Paulbearers will be grandsons of Mr. Witcher.
Honorary pallbears will be Elwyn Fennel, Bud Pauley, Miller Fox, Chris Marsch and J.C. Douglas.
Born on September 18, 1873, at Bells, Texas, the son of Capt. J.C. and Fannie Gilbert Witcher, Mr. Witcher was married in May 1893 to the former Deonie Frances, who survives. A farmer, Mr. Witcher lived most of his life south and east of Fulton. His home in Fulton was at 812 Center Street. On May 28 Mr. and Mrs. Witcher would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. He was the last surviving nephew of the late Judge S.P. Gilbert.
Survivors besides his wife include four daughters, Mrs. Maple Autrey, Mountainair, N.M., Mrs. Mildred Worthen, Lubbock, Texas, Mrs. Ethel Hamilton of the home, and Mrs. Gladys Day, Columbia; two sons, George Witcher of Vinson, Okla., and Cecil Witcher, Fulton, two sisters, Mrs. Tom Foster, Duncana, Okla., and Mrs. Roy Webb, Houston, Texas. Also 18 grandchildren, 33 treat grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
