Nancy Herring and Peter M. Gibony

Nancy Herring was a daughter of John and Lucy Carver Herring. She was born May 25, 1834 in Albemarle Co. Virginia. She had 10 brothers and 1 sister, and was my 2nd great grandaunt.

Nancy came from Albemarle Virginia with her family when she was 4 years old. On December 6, 1860 she married Peter M. Gibony. I have found various spellings of the last name including, Gibony, Giboney, and Gibney. Peter was born about 1834 in Callaway County Missouri, a son of John W. Gibony of Kentucky. Peter had 2 brothers, 4 half brothers and 2 half sisters. His parents came to Missouri before 1829.

Peter Gibony was a Civil War Veteran, on the side of the Union Army. He was inducted on Dec. 10, 1863, and discharged on March 18, 1864 because of a disability.

Peter and Nancy Herring Giboney had 5 children:

    • On the 1900 census, John's, mother, Nancy Herring Giboney is listed as head of house, William, son 38 yrs widower, Sally 28 yrs single, Cecil grandson 13 yrs William is John William.

    • married June 9, 1881, Callaway Co., Missouri, Willis Dabney Herring b: May 10, 1851, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: Oct 12, 1932, Callaway Co., Missouri. Willis Dabney was a son of George W. Herring Sr. and Lucy Simco. Willis Dabney Herring was my great granduncle, Lucy Emma Giboney was my 1st cousin 3 times removed. Click here for more information about this family.

    • Married Oct 12, 1901, Callaway Co., Missouri, Charles Sherman Bice, b: Jun. 6, 1872, Illinois, d: Aug. 20, 1917, Jefferson City, Cole Co., Missouri, buried Riverview cemetery, Jefferson City, Cole Co., Missouri. He was a son of Jacob and Sarah Bice of Ohio.

Peter M. Gibony died Aug 4, 1894. I have not found where he was buried, but probably at Hams Prairie Christian Cemetery.

Nancy Herring Gibony died Feb 15, 1901.
Callaway Weekly Gazette Obituary:
     Mrs. Nancy Giboney, aged 65 years, died at her home near Pitcher, Callaway county, February 15. Consumption was the cause of her death. The body was buried at Hams Prairie on the following day.
