James Russell Hampton was a son of Amos L. Hampton and Martha Ann Tharp. On Oct. 27, 1945 in Fulton, Callaway Co., Missouri, he married Hazel Jean Gathright. She was a daughter of Virgil Gathright and Alta Craghead, a granddaughter of John Thomas Gathright Jr. and Ida Florence Newsom, and, James Lewis Craghead and Laura Belle Herring.
