Clyde Herring was the second child of George Washington Herring Jr. and Josima McNerva Allen. He was my granduncle.
He was born August 24, 1873 in Callaway Co. Missouri. He married his second cousin, Sarah Ann Cave on April 28, 1901. He was known by the nickname of Bob all his life.
Sarah (Sallie) Ann (Annie) Cave was born on Oct 3, 1878 in Callaway Co. Missouri. She was a daughter of Henry Cave III and Mary E. Goves. Henry Cave III was a son of Henry Cave Jr. and Sarah R. Allen. Sarah R. Allen was a sister of John Karah Allen who was Clyde Herring's grandfather. Sarah Ann Cave was my 2nd cousin twice removed.
Clyde and Sarah Cave Herring had three children:

- married abt. 1925 Callaway Co., Missouri. Louise Reed, b: July 20, 1903, Callaway Co., Missouri, d: July, 1994, California.
- On the 1930 census, Clyde and Louis live at 719 Grand Ave in Fulton. They rent for $25. They own a radio. They have no children. Clyde works as a reporter on a newpaper, Louise is a stenographer in real estate.
- Arleigh Herring b: July 27, 1903 Callaway Co., Missouri. d: Aug 26, 1981 Fulton, Callaway Co., Missouri
- married April 8, 1956 Callaway Co., Missouri., Mercedes Rowe b: Mar 27, 1910 St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri. d: March 21, 2001, Callaway Co., Missouri. They are both buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Fulton, Missouri. She was a daughter of William Rowe and Maude Stauffen.
- Obituary - Arleigh H. Herring, 78, of Route 1, Fulton, died at his home Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1981.
He was born July 27,1903, in Fulton to C. "Bob" and Annie Cave Herring. On April 8, 1956, he married Mercedes Rowe. She survives at the home.
Also surviving are one brother, Clyde C. Herring of San Lorenzo, Ca; one sister, Maydean Straw of Kansas City, Missouri.; one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Mr. Herring was emoloyed for 44 years by Southwestern Bell Telephone. He had been retired from the company's Fulton office for 15 years.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at Maupin Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Alien Bartletti officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mercedes Herring, 90, of Fulton, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the Presbyterian Manor in Fulton.
She was born March 27, 1910, on Easter Sunday, in St. Louis, to the late William and Maude (Stauffen) Rowe. She married Arleigh Herring on April 8, 1956. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1981.
Survivors include seven nieces and nephews, Georgiana Jones of Florissant; Richard Muse and Garry Muse, both of Maryland Heights; Wendy Stengel and Robert Dunavant, both of Overland; Donna Weaver of St. Ann; and William Dunavant of Las Vegas; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers and a nephew.
Mrs. Herring attended the Missouri Baptist Nursing School. She later worked as a registered nurse for Dr. G.F. Wood until his retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 35 in Fulton and was a member of the Court Street Methodist Church in Fulton for 75 years.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Maupin Funeral Home, in Fulton, with Bruce Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Fulton. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Maydean H. Straw, 93, Kansas City, MO, passed away Monday, January 17, 2000. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 20, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice.
Mrs. Straw was born July 1, 1906, in Fulton, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Straw, in 1985. Survivors include her daughter, ____, Edwardsville, KS; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In the 1930 census, Clyde "Bob" and Ann Herring live in Fulton Township, own property valued at $2000. They have a radio and do not live on a farm. Clyde is 57 and was married when he was 28. He works as a building contractor. Arleigh, his son, is a telephone lineman at age 26. Scott and Mayme Waters (Clyde's sister) are living either next door or in same house.
