Sarah Herring Crosthwait and Captain Samuel Blount

Sarah Herring was a daughter of Nathaniel and Susan Hill Herring. Nathan Herring was my 2nd great granduncle. Nathan was a son of George and Elizabeth Closby Herring, and the brother of my 2nd great grandfather George W. Herring Sr. and my 3rd great grandfather John Herring.

Sarah was born in 1834 in Albemarle Co., Virginia. She was a baby when they made the journey from Virginia to Missouri. On July 13, 1880 she married her second husband, Captain Samuel Blount. They were married in Callaway Co., Missouri.

I have found numerous spellings of Crosthwait, including Croswait, Crosstwaite, Croswhite, and even one instance of Cropwhite in the 1850 census. Most of these different spellings are because of errors in transcribing the original documents.

Below is a passage from the book, "A History of Callaway County, 1884", which talks about Samuel Blount and his family history. Sarah Herring Crosthwait (spelled Croswhite here) is named as his third wife.
